Snibston Colliery Visit – Tuesday 29th April at 10:30 am
On 29th April, 18 members enjoyed an excellent “Members Only” visit to Snibston Colliery Park. Please click on the following image to see some photos taken on our trip.
Our three guides, who led us round the site, were enthusiastic and humorous and explained how the mine had been created, run and managed in a manner that respected the hard work undertaken by the mining staff. Initially the “owner” himself explained the origin of the colliery and Coalville and then a retired Pit Deputy and Electrician took us round the site and explained the whole process.
It was a fascinating two hours. The cafe was good for a coffee or light lunch. Thanks go to Margaret Lewis for organising a wonderful event.
The Snibston Colliery is situated adjacent to the Century Theatre, off Ashby Road, Coalville, LE67 3LN, about 34 miles and 50 minutes drive from Lubenham.
There is a café and car parking (currently £3 per day) on site and more parking in nearby streets and a town car park 10 minutes away (see: https://leicscountryparks.org.uk/parks/snibston-colliery-park/).
