A History of My House – part 2
In the past we have covered the larger, grand and historic houses of the area but what about the ‘unsung’ houses – the ordinary homes where most of us live?
At next month’s meeting we will look at a few more of these houses with current residents sharing the history and stories behind the front door!

Members Only Visits
Our second visit of the year was an afternoon walking tour of the attractive town of Burbage, near Hinckley on 4th July. Hosted by the Burbage Heritage Group, 18 of us enjoyed learning about the history, stories and characters from the town’s past and seeing a variety of architectural styles.
Our next event will be a Guided tour of Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 3rd October
Names are now being taken for what promises to be an informative visit to this newly reordered building with 900 years of history as a place of worship. The cost will be £5 per person for the guided tour. As parking near the Cathedral is limited, we are providing FREE coach transport leaving Lubenham at 1pm. There are 25 seats available which will be allocated on a first-come, first -served basis. You will also be free to make your own way there if you prefer and there is no limit to the number of people who can participate.
The guided tour will last approximately an hour and there will be time for refreshments. The coach will leave at 4pm to return to Lubenham. If you would like to take part, please contact Margaret Lewis. As a coach booking is involved, early commitment to the trip would be appreciated.
Annual Summer Supper
This year’s Summer Supper will take place on Saturday 17th August at 6:30pm in the Village Hall.
The event is free to all LHG Members but guests and non-members are welcome at £5 per head. We provide the food and soft drinks but if you prefer something stronger, you need to bring your own bottle. There will be a raffle and David Hannibal is threatening one of his short but fiendish quizzes!
We need to know approximate numbers for catering purposes so please give your name at the July meeting or contact Barbara Burbidge or Pat Dyke by 13th August. We look forward to seeing you there for what is always an enjoyable evening.
Festival of Archaeology
Want to know more about archaeological digs, especially in our area, then read on! The Leicestershire and Rutland Festival of Archaeology is back and continues until 31st July. Guided walks, talks, visits to places of interest and many other events, celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of the two counties.
