- Richard III – The King Under the Car Park – 10th February 2026 – Mathew Morris

We extend a warm welcome to Mathew Morris, leading archaeologist, writer and public speaker, who will take us on a personal illustrated journey through the discovery of the tomb of King Richard III and the final solving of a 500 years old mystery. In 2012, he directed the successful archaeological excavation searching for the lost grave of King Richard III. Currently, he is the lead archaeologist for the Leicester Cathedral Revealed and Bosworth Links projects, both supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
How many of us have actually been on that site prior to the discovery of the grave? I certainly had parked over that spot when it was a Car Park and my daughter would have been one of many who played there when it was a school playground.
- Annual Quiz Night – Tuesday 10th March 2026 at 7.15pm
Thinking Caps 0n?
Our popular General Knowledge Quiz makes a welcome return with prizes for the winning table – will it be yours? The ever-popular Bangers ‘n Mash Supper is back with a vegetarian option as usual. Raffle, bar selling wine, beer and soft drinks and, of course David Hannibal and new this year Michael Weedon’s cunning questions. Tickets will stay at £10 per person including supper and payable on the night. It helps with catering if you book a table in advance by contacting Pip Clements, or you can turn up on the night. Don’t worry if you are not in a group of four as we can arrange tables on the night.
Please note the earlier than normal start time. We ask you to arrive at 7:15pm so that we can begin the quiz promptly at 7:30pm.
- 2026 Annual General Meeting
LUBENHAM HERITAGE GROUP
Annual General Meeting for 2026
to be held on Tuesday 17th February 2026
7:30pm in the Onyx RoomPlease note that the AGM takes place on Tuesday 17th February at 7.30pm in the Onyx Room. It is your chance to hear the report on our activities in 2025, receive the financial report and elect the committee.
The AGM is the obvious place to put forward your opinions and ideas, so please try to join us for a glass of wine and a chat, as we discuss the future of the Heritage Group, where we go from here and ideas for speakers, talks, and visits. Numbers at our recent meetings have been good, there is a sense of purpose, and it is your opportunity to have your say and put forward your suggestions or offers of help.
The Committee would appreciate your input and support at the AGM – ours are never dull and there are refreshments as well. See you on 17th February.
Last year we were naturally panicking about the future of Lubenham Heritage Group with three important committee members standing down. The past year has seen consolidation and progress on the Committee and a series of very interesting subjects, speakers and outings. 2026 looks equally informative and interesting.
PLEASE COME ALONG TO THE AGM when we will receive reports on the work of LHG and its Committee, the election of the new committee and officers. There will be opportunity to make suggestions for topics and speakers and also Members Only Outings.
Items for Discussion
Raffle
The Committee has discussed at some depth the amount of work involved in organising the Raffle. The last Raffle at Christmas went well but we need someone or a small group who would be willing to run the Raffle on our behalf. What do you feel?
