A Happy New Year to all our members and visitors!

Welcome back to our new year of interesting meetings and speakers,
especially to our Speaker today, Mike Stroud as he enlightens as to the
history of the Symington Brothers and their famous companies.

BRIDGESCAPES

Our next Meeting will be on Tuesday 11th February 2025, Lubenham Village Hall @ 7.30pm

We extend a warm welcome to Bruce Keith who will take us on a personal illustrated journey through history celebrating Scotland’s bridge-building heritage.

For us a bridge can consist of a simple plank of wood over a stream, or more complex structures from stone arched bridges to civil engineering marvels such as the Forth Bridge or more recent concrete and stainless-steel reinforced structures, such as the Skye Bridge.

Book the date and time. Members £1.50, non-members £3.50. Tea/coffee and biscuits served.

The Future of LHG

A reminder that after 24 years of loyal service, our Treasurer Pat Dyke and Secretary Barbara Burbidge are both retiring at the next AGM. Margaret Lewis, who has so ably organised the Members Only events for the past few years, is also leaving due other commitments. This leaves LHG in a critical situation and we urgently need volunteers to step forward to help.

We are already reducing the work undertaken, for example by abandoning the Summer Supper and restricting some Member events. We also feel unable at present to support community events providing displays, exhibitions and so on or undertake large projects such as the recent Graveyard Survey.

This is a sad state of affairs which is unfortunately not restricted to our Group. LHG has been at the heart of village life for nearly a quarter of a century. Without immediate help we may cease to exist altogether.

PLEASE COME ALONG TO THE AGM when this will all be discussed. In the meantime get more information from any member of committee or contact our current secretary, Barbara Burbidge.

LHG AGM: Tuesday 25th February 2025, 7.30pm in the Village Hall, Onyx Room

Membership Fees

You will be pleased to note that Membership fees remain as last year – £15 pp with reduced entry fee to meetings of £1.50.  You can renew your membership at any LHG meeting or contact our Treasurer Pat Dyke.

Please note: as the bank is now charging 50p to process a cheque, it would be appreciated if you could renew your membership by paying CASH. Thank you.

Raffle

The Committee has discussed at some depth the amount of work involved in organising the Raffle at our monthly meetings and the return in ticket sales. They propose not doing a raffle in the future – except on special occasions like Christmas and Quiz Night. What do you feel? This is something to be discussed at our AGM on Tuesday 25th February, 7.30pm in the Village Hall Onyx Room.
