Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill – A History – 14th July 2026 – Graham Watts
Where would we be without our bread or flour for baking, or feed for the birds? The milling of grain and flour has been vital for local communities over the centuries, and most villages had their own mill or access to one nearby, either powered by water or the wind. On Tuesday 14th July Graham Watts will give us an illustrated talk on the Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill and the importance of mills for society and the producer.
Graham is a volunteer at Kibworth Harcourt Mill. His illustrated talk will include a brief history of windmills, the importance socially of mills, and information about the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB).
Graham will outline the history of Kibworth Mill – the oldest surviving windmill in Leicestershire – and the repairs undertaken in 2021/2022 such that this historic mill now looks like its former self with a black and white body, white sails, black sheeted roofs, a round house and a curving tail pole.
The mill is open to visitors on select days by appointment.
