This talk will look at the origins of the coaching trade in Market Harborough with the creation of a turnpike road between Northampton and Leicester. It will also show how the trade influenced the town itself. The talk will contain anecdotes of travellers through the town and their experiences of travelling by coach and staying at Harborough Inns. The talk ends with a description of how the trade reached a climax in the early 19th century before going into deep decline in the 1840s.
